How do we support NDIS participants

SUPPORTING NDIS PARTICIPANTS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is designed to provide Australians living with disability the support they need to live more independent, empowered, and fulfilling lives. As a registered social worker and qualified sexologist, I bring a unique and inclusive lens to supporting NDIS participants—particularly those within the LGBTQIA+ community—by providing therapeutic services that centre dignity, autonomy, and self-determination.

HOW I SUPPORT NDIS PARTICIPANTS:

Holistic Psychosocial Support:
Drawing on my experience as a social worker, I offer psychosocial support that addresses both immediate needs and long-term goals. This includes helping participants manage mental health challenges, navigate social relationships, build confidence, and access community-based supports.

Identity-Affirming Practice:
Many NDIS participants also belong to communities that experience marginalisation, including LGBTQIA+ people. My practice creates a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore and affirm their gender, sexuality, and identity without fear of discrimination or misunderstanding.

Trauma-Informed Care:
I offer support that recognises the impact of trauma on a person’s mental health and functioning. I tailor my approach to support safety, choice, and empowerment—particularly important for those who have experienced systemic barriers or interpersonal harm.

Capacity Building and Goal Setting:
I support participants in developing the skills and confidence to achieve their goals, whether they relate to emotional wellbeing, relationships, community engagement, or personal independence. Sessions are collaborative, and progress is guided by what matters most to the individual.

Sexual Health and Relationship Support:
NDIS participants often face barriers in accessing inclusive, appropriate support for sexual health and relationships. As a sexologist, I provide education and counselling around intimacy, consent, boundaries, and communication—supporting healthy, respectful, and fulfilling relationships.

Culturally Safe, Inclusive Support:
My background includes working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, people with disability, and those from the LGBTQIA+ community. My practice is deeply informed by a commitment to intersectionality, accessibility, and inclusion.

Collaboration with Support Teams:
I can work alongside participants’ support coordinators, allied health professionals, and broader care teams to ensure services are integrated and aligned with their NDIS goals and plan. I’m experienced in communicating clearly, respectfully, and ethically with multidisciplinary teams.

My services can be funded under the NDIS for participants who are self-managed or plan-managed.
If you are unsure whether counselling or sexology supports can be included in your plan, I’m happy to provide guidance or work with your support coordinator to explore your options.
